A point of VIEW Seeing the world through YOUR lens. The camera is simply a framing devise that captures light and creates a format to share what you see. Imagine looking through the eyes of your heart. How then would you see the world differently? Art & Clarity, owned by Janna Waldinger and Lowell Downey, is a full service photography, video and mutii-media company in Napa. They are celebrating 20 years serving Napa Valley business, tourists and locals. They are also celebrating 13 years creating the cover photography and editorial photography for Napa Valley Life Magazine. Janna and Lowell are passionate about helping individuals and businesses “show up and shine.” “My father, a professional photographer in LA began to teach me to explore the world through the lens when I was 5 years old,” says Janna who also serves on the Napa County Board of Education. “It’s fine tuning through the artists’ eye that creates beautiful and poetic imagery. There is so much more to see and be aware of than we actually pay attention to,” she says. “Notice the direction of the light. Look for open shade for good portraiture. Select a background with tones that are darker than the subject.” Janna and Lowell’s creative talents have taken them around the globe. Their work has appeared in the Napa Valley Museum and galleries internationally. They art has been published in magazines and in several books. In Israel Janna created a video “Pathways to Peace,” for Jalapa Bonheim. Lowell is working on a book about his journeys to South America, Dubai, and India with Napa’s renowned balloonist, Joyce Bowen. Lowell was commissioned to create the photographs for a series of books, In Their Own Words, the first was a collection of stories of Latino wine makers here in Napa and the second book are stories of Latino Chefs and the Mexican culinary experience in Los Angeles. “Whether creating artful portraits in the studio or photographing for the food, wine, or event industry, or working with biologists to evaluate the health of our streams and habitat, working in Napa over these last twenty years has been a blessing,” Lowell said. “My son, Forest, has learned the creative side to this business and inspires me with his insights and desire to share his talent with his friends.” Encouraging everyone to take their vision to a new level, Janna and Lowell teach a custom photography class called “The Art of Seeing.” This class gives individuals of all levels the opportunity to expand their perspective and finetune their photography skills while developing a deeper appreciation for the world around them.
