27 “Myself, Chef Rich and our Beverage Manager Brandon Thompson are all level two sommeliers, which helps us find the perfect balance in all of our cocktails.” If you’re lucky, friendly and knowledgeable Morris will be on hand to guide you through your choices. At Market Street Kitchen in DC Ranch quality ingredients and passion likewise take center stage. A casual neighborhood favorite, it’s also destination-worthy with Executive Chef Michael Hunn in the kitchen and Garrit Guthrie in charge of the cocktail program. Crowd favorites include excellent green chile pork and rotisserie specials such as prime rib and roast chicken, but Chef Hunn, who hails from Hawaii, also has a way with seafood. Order the flavorful cioppino, the lobster roll served on a grilled brioche bun and filled with chunks of sweet lobster enhanced with fennel pollen aioli, or the fish of the day which could be opakapaka flown in from Hawaii. “Outsourcing the freshest local ingredients and hand-selecting the highest quality proteins provide us with inspiration to take classical dishes and put a relevant spin on them to create a memorable dining experience,” describes co-owner Matt Keeler. “We offer ‘New American Cuisine’ with a variety to please everyone.” The cocktail program is also pretty special at Market Street Kitchen. “Our goals beveragewise are based on expanding the palates of our clientele,” says Garrit Guthrie. “We try to expose people to new things that they may not have previously had the chance to try and really showcase Arizona as being a food and drink destination.” You’ll find a list rife with creative libations and a “Secret Book Club” cocktail menu. Look for the bookshelf behind the bar and ask for the current novel to find a special insert of Guthrie’s literature-inspired cocktails (past features have included rye-based cocktails in Catcher in the Rye and tiki drinks in Treasure Island). Starting in April, look for The Outsiders, a collaborative effort between Guthrie and some of the best industry professionals in the Valley where each of their cocktails will be named after a character from the book. These culinary and beverage gems are just some of the outstanding choices those who live in the Valley are lucky enough to enjoy. It’s easy to see why our wonderful city is fast making its presence known on the culinary destination map. Market Street Kitchen
