historian, as his family’s history, by extension,
stretched all the way back to the beginning of the
city.
George is a master storyteller, and here we are all
these years later, still being taught by him. Whether
leading a walking tour of historic downtown Pinole,
presenting a quarterly program for the society,
authoring books, teaching a group of young children
in local schools about the history of Pinole — or
writing lyrical, thought-provoking articles about
events and characters who gave the city a flair that
few other cities its size can match in the Pinole
Historical Society newsletter for the last decade —
George Vincent carries the soul of Pinole within him.
George has been a resource for me and countless
others. He has been a tireless promoter of the
society’s activities, not only with his words, but also
with his contributions to virtually every activity we
undertake.
The society was very grateful that, after a three-year
hiatus in our in-person activities because of COVID-
19, we were able to honor him all he’s given to
Pinole and to the society, and for his friendship.
MUSEUM NEWS
It’s been a long struggle to establish a history museum
in Pinole. It began in 2005 when the Faria House
was moved to its current location, and while we had
hoped we’d be open by now, we’re resolute in seeing
our mission to fruition.
Many of the dinner attendees — there were 169 paid
tickets — have donated to the museum and supported
our efforts before the city council. They see the value
in preserving our past history and making a lasting
record of our present history.

Valid Through Dec. 15, 2022
While COVID-19 restrictions severely curtailed
our activities in 2021, the Pinole History Museum
and Pinole Historical Society accomplished several
goals in its mission to preserve our city’s history,
including two oral history projects with Pinole Valley
High School students, resumption of its Veterans
Day Memorial and Flag Retirement Ceremony, and
continuing its yearly history essay contest in Pinole
schools.
While a permanent home for the Pinole History
Museum is still forth-coming, our approach is focused
on public outreach — working with schools, the
community, and local businesses to promote interest
and excitement for the preservation of our historical
past.
With that in mind, the museum board is preparing
several mini exhibits that will be installed in Pinole
businesses. These exhibits will include photographs
and memorabilia on the city’s founding families, the
early ranchos, downtown, and the history of Pinole’s
street names. The first will be at Mechanics Bank.
