Steve: One or two vegan restaurants Pat: A good camera store, a hardware store with machining tools and a good size dock at the park downtown instead of just a wall Todd and Lisa: A place where you can go to dance, a night club!!! Meccala: Better late night locals options for food! Sarah: More shopping options..... I would love to see a "white house black market" "express" etc. go into the outdoor shopping area near McCaulous. That area could be a great outdoor shopping area like Walnut Creek!! Hilary: A thriving community center! Thanks for your suggestions! Now...which one of you will make these things happen? Group fitness is First Class at HealthQuest 36 www. n A PAVA L L E Y L I F Emagaz ine . com ADVERTORIAL FEATURE on Facebook ...as we know it Thirty years ago if you wanted to take an exercise class the choice was limited. Dance-based aerobics was the only game in town, and leotards and leg warmers were all the rage. Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons were at the height of their popularity. Big hair and neon Lycra were the “in” thing. Fast-forward to 2013. It’s obvious that the variety of group exercise classes has exploded. There’s everything from high-intensity boot camps to calming, restorative yoga. Some classes are built around a single piece of equipment like a stability ball or spin bike. Others use dumbbells, ballet barres, medicine balls, and a multitude of other accessories to target every part of the body. For health clubs, getting all of these popular classes scheduled during convenient times and finding space for all the equipment they use is a big challenge. The only real solution is to create more space, and that is exactly what HealthQuest Fitness Center did when they started a major expansion in 2011. The 12,000 + square foot addition is anchored by a luxurious new women’s locker room. But most of the space was used to make room for their popular fitness classes. They now have one of the largest group fitness programs in the Bay Area, with four dedicated classrooms and over 110 classes per week. Two of the rooms were designed for a specific type of class. Their new “Cycle” room holds 36 top-of-the-line stationary Spin bikes with power meters. In their “Energy” studio you are surrounded by calming colors, slate walls, and bamboo floors. This room hosts their very popular Yoga program. The other two rooms see a little more variety. The “Power” room is the largest of the four. It hosts everything from blasts from the past like Cardio Dance and Step to today’s most dynamic workouts like Barre and Fusion. The “Sport” studio has a row of heavy bags along the wall for Kickboxing and pull-up bars for the program’s High Intensity Interval Training workouts. There are also classes available in the Club’s two heated pools. Aqua Aerobics is popular in the Fitness Pool, and there are supervised swimming workouts and instruction in the Lap Pool. Some of their HIT/ Boot Camp style workouts take advantage of the new sprint track recently installed along the backside of the property. It’s readily apparent from the busy parking lot and the extensive schedule that the Club has found a winning combination. The great variety, the beautiful rooms, and the dynamic instructors all help to put HealthQuest’s group exercise program in a class by itself. 3175 California Blvd. 707 254-7200. www.napahealthquest.com
