THE CONGRATULATOR Wine Gets Linked into Celebrating Business Contacts’ Accomplishments by Stacy Scales s eptember/ october 2 0 1 3 24 p. 2 | The INK If you’re anything like me, you probably already know that LinkedIn has been simplifying business connections the world over for more than a decade. But what you might not know is just how to make the most of it. Specifically, I personally never really know what to do with all those emails I get suggesting I congratulate contacts on accomplishments like job promotions, new positions, or work anniversaries. Enter The Congratulator. The idea behind this innovation germinated at a company called Attention Span, a digital and social media agency with clients in entertainment, sports, hospitality, and politics. CEO Josh McHugh brought up the idea to good friend Dan Braun, an entrepreneur whose interests include cofounding the Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite and Southern Mountain Yosemite Guides, to name a few. With the development handled on the Attention Span side, Dan took the reins as the business and corporate development specialist. Because of Braun’s extensive background in the wine and hospitality industries, McHugh knew he was the one to go to for the particular project. Recently I chatted briefly with each of them to get the full scoop on what The Congratulator is and how it fills a void in these online business relationships.
