WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE 525 S. Winchester Blvd.,
San Jose, 408/247-2000. winchestermysteryhouse.com.
This historic architectural gem was the obsession-project of
Sarah Winchester, a 19th-century widow who spent decades
adding on to her house to deter the spirits of those killed by
the guns her husband’s company made. Today, you can tour
the labyrinthine mansion and learn why it’s called one of the
most haunted places in the world. Built during the Victorian
era, the Winchester Mystery House is especially inspiring
during the holidays. The shimmering Christmas tree, the
warm exchange of Christmas cards, hanging stockings by
the fire—each of these traditions has its own special story.
In true holiday spirit, Sarah’s eccentric mansion is open
for daily tours through December 31st, which will feature a
sprinkling of Victorian holiday traditions, beautiful holiday
decor, music and more.
