The Privilege to Breathe: Adia Millet.
Through Aug. 25. is a series of abstracted
textile pieces based on a few questions Millet
began to ask herself about privilege. Using
a combination of recycled and discarded fabrics,
Millett pieces together images of hope.
Through this process of investigation, she discovered
something we all have—the privilege

La Vie de Bohème. Through Oct. 13. This
exhibition celebrates the collaboration between
two cultural institutions, San Jose Museum of
Quilts & Textiles and Opera San José. Showcasing
costumes, illustrations and props from
SJ Opera’s production of “La Bohème,” the
costumes illuminate the story of a group of
bohemians, and how their lives become intertwined.

Mayan Traje: A Tradition in Transition.
Through Oct. 13. This exhibit will show outstanding
examples of Mayan clothing from the
early 20th century to contemporary fashion,
highlight key differences, and the reasons for
these changes. On view are individual pieces
as well as full trajes—none created for tourist
markets. These will be drawn from the rarely
displayed collection of the Friends of the Ixchel

Surreal Sublime. Through Sept 15. Landscape
Art as a historical genre is rooted in
the capture of nature through representation,
imagination, and emotion. Introduced in the
18th century, the “sublime” was a category of
landscape painting described as leaving one
with a feeling of both pleasure and fear of the
overpowering qualities of nature. Admission

Tracey Snelling: Clusterf*ck 9. Through
Sept. 15. Berlin-based artist Tracey Snelling’s
Clusterf*ck series consists of immersive installations
that combine sculpture, video projections,
lights, rugs, kitsch, and odd accessories,
creating the illusion of being transported to a
foreign world. A cacophony of symbols and
sounds places the viewer at the conjunction
of different, sometimes opposing cultures – all
simultaneously animated in Snelling’s world.
