Bayland Nature
Preserve
While the South Bay is a mecca for tech, it also
offers a soul-soothing array of natural wonders. As
one of the largest undisturbed marshlands in Silicon
Valley and the SF Bay Area, the Bayland Nature
Preserve is teeming with a magnificent menagerie
of wildlife species. Bounded by Mountain View and
East Palo Alto, the 1,940-acre preserve is a favorite
for birders who flock to the serene stopover to
watch avian migrations along the Pacific Flyway.
Aside from scanning the skies, lovers of the outdoors
will find plenty of places to contemplate nature
while walking, running or biking along 15 miles
of multi-use trails with access to a unique mixture
of tidal and fresh-water habitats. Other popular pastimes
include aquatic activities like windsurfing and
boating using non-motorized craft such as canoes,
kayaks or small, hand-launched boats and sailboards.
