Overview: At Children’s Discovery Museum, summer
is all about giving back. The museum’s nationally
recognized Summer of Service program offers
youth in grades 7 to 10 a multitude of opportunities
focused on community service: facilitating museum
activities, helping produce multimedia presentations,
assisting local preschools, becoming a guardian
for the environment, and learning leadership
skills. The sessions are ideal for kids too old for day
care and too young for full-time employment. The
Association of Children’s Museums has recognized
the Summer of Service program with the Promising
Practices Award for providing an outstanding opportunity
