Bottom Line: The Willows Historic Palm Springs Inn speaks
to those favoring Old World architecture and antiques. The inn
does not provide spa, gym or tennis courts. There are, however, a
swimming pool and outdoor whirlpool, also a convenient hillside
for hiking. No restaurant or bar, by design: Tracy is ready with
suggestions on nearby downtown dining quarters, gyms and
shopping—all within walking distance.
Local attractions: Listed on the National Registry
of Historic Places, the 4,200-square-foot
O’Donnell House (odonnellhouse.com) represents
another restoration project led by Tracy and
her husband. Visitors can book a 90-minute tour
that covers the origin of the home in addition to
the history of Palm Springs.
Located next to The Willows, the Palm
Springs Art Museum (psmuseum.org) exhibits
classic Western, Native American and modern
art, and more. Entry is free.
The resort is two blocks away from Palm
Canyon Drive (palmcanyondrive.org), a shopping
district packed with mid-century modern
furniture shops, men and women’s boutiques,
galleries and delectable eateries.
Travelers in the mood for accessible adventure
can board the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway
The Willows offers value, as food and beverages are bundled
into the price. Each stay comes with a three-course breakfast, a
wine and hors d’ oeuvres afternoon reception, ice tea, and fresh
fruit. Every amenity and service is included in the overnight fee
including parking and twice-daily maid service. The inn is closed
from June through August.
